Tony Adragna has been deeply involved in basketball for as long as he can remember both as a player and a coach. A proud graduate of Southport High School, Tony was a three-year varsity player and served as team captain during his senior year. Under his leadership, Southport achieved back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in 20 years.
Though Tony did not play basketball in college, he pursued his passion for the game by studying sports broadcasting at Indiana University, which allowed him to stay connected to the sport. His coaching journey began immediately after college graduation in 2013, when he joined the Indiana Elite program. Over the years, Tony has coached various teams, including his Indiana Elite Force team, which posted an impressive 108-41 record during their final three years of high school AAU. All of the players from this team went on to play college basketball at various levels.
Tony also spent eight years coaching within the Southport program, where he coached at multiple levels, from middle school to junior varsity, and eventually became a varsity assistant. After stepping away from high school coaching, Tony transitioned into a consulting role, assisting several programs around the state with film breakdowns, scouting, and strategy.
A significant moment in Tony’s career was coaching his brother-in-law, Chaz Hinds, from middle school through high school and AAU. Chaz went on to have a decorated college basketball career, scoring over 1,000 points and playing for a Division II national championship in 2023.
Tony’s love for basketball is deeply rooted, but his motivation to coach has grown beyond the game itself. He takes pride in helping young men not only develop their basketball skills but also grow as individuals. For him, the true reward comes from witnessing the organic development of his players, both on and off the court.
